That’s called ‘water hammer’ in plumbing terms. Get a plumber to get rid of it.It’s like air in the pipes or something.
Alan is exactly right. The hot water going down the drain is warming the pipe, causing it to expand, and the sound you hear is the pipe moving through the holes drilled through the studs in the wall. its no cause for alarm, its just an annoyance.
Sounds like you have air in the pipes. Plumber can fix it in a second.
Hot water causes the pipes to get longer/expand. More so on CPVC piping as I would guess You have. This is normal. You could change it to copper tube, or Polyetheylene plastic (PEX). Copper is expensive and the pex other than "creep" just bends out of shape. Just an expansion problem. But if You have a check valve on the main inlet – or on a well system You may need an expansion tank to take care of thermal expansion on Your system… Hope that helps.
Allen P answer 3 is the one with the best answer and solution. Unless Allen & I didnt understand your simptoms correctly. Water hammer is caused when water pressure is changed quickly and the resulting stopage of flow causes "hydrolic shock" inside the piping. From your discription its the Hot water and it happens when you run the hot water. This then makes me believe Allen is on the right path. A piping system or maybe a few feet making a loop in your wall can stop the noise. You might also try reducing the water temp from the water heater, this will cause the pipe to warm slower and may eliminate the noise all together. If this slowes the noise then we are on the right track. Another way to confirm the heat is the cause is to turn off the water heater, allow the water to cool, and try to make the noise again. If it lessens noticably then the hot water is deffinately the cause. If it dosnt change much then water hammer may be the problem. I have the older gray colored pex pipe and it makes a creeking noise occationally when hot water flowes the the lavitory.
maybe you have to fix it or unclog it and if it does the same with both it is stuck or broken
OK try this one
if it is a creaking sound it is pipe expansion. If is a banging it is water hammer and most commonly caused by a loose washer somewhere in the system. It could be and angle stop under the sink or for that matter even in another faucet.
To help cure if it is creaking I would assume that your hot water temp is to high. Simply turn off the power (if its electric) remove the panels (usually 2)and turn down the thermostat with an insulated flat head screwdriver. (240 volts can kill you) TURN OFF THE POWER. If is a gas water heater then simply turn down the dial on the gas inlet valve
