I live in Wisconsin and for the past month there has been a hot water problem. Every morning I go to take a shower the water may start a little warm but then gets cold. Since I pay for rent with the hot water included, does the landlord have to fix any hot water problems right away legally?

I dont think it is a ‘water hammer’ since it is happening when the water is running. It started happening recently when the city increased the water pressure in my area. I have tried lowering the hot water temperature on my hot water heater but it has not worked. Any suggestions?

Update: the pipe is behind a bathtub wall, so I cant fasten the pipe without breaking the tile.

to drain out the deposits (the management of my apartment did this) and it still makes noises. it will happen even in the middle of the night when i don’t have any water on and i am sleeping and it will last for about 5 or 10 minutes and it wakes me up and my neighbors.

maybe the deposits are too big to come out? is there something i can stick in there to dissolve them? thanks

Hi. We have a hot water heater that seems to have something wrong with it. Whe your turn on the cold only, the water is clear. When you turn on hot water, it is a rusty color. We think it is the hot water heater doing this. Anyone have a similar problem? How to fix? We have drained the heater and still the same problem. Thanks in advance!
It is an electric hot water heater

Im on a month to month lease, and a couple weeks back he gave me a certified written letter stating he was selling the house and I had til September 5th to move out. I have been asking for almost 2 months verbally that the heater wont stay lit. Its rare for anyone in the house to get a hot shower, I have 3 kids. On July 17, NRHA (Nevada Rural Housing Authority) gave them a 30 day written notice, which is up tomorrow, and almost one week ago i wrote one myself. It is obvious that the landlord is not going to fix the hot water heater until i move out. So, even though the landlord has asked me to move out, am I allowed to counter act and move out sooner and claim my deposit back because he violates the state laws? If I can move out and take the deposit, am i still responsible for the cleaning of the house and professional carpet cleaner?
State law says that my hot water heater has be be in working condition, working and heating my water. and I am on HUD (which is NRHA). So he is violating the law since law states that he has 10 Days to fix it aafter a written notice to him.

When I light the pilot light it will stay lit, but once I turn up the thermostat the burner will only run for 10-20 seconds and then the burner and pilot light both go out instantly. Does anyone know what can cause this? Is it possible it’s just the thermocouple? (I would assume that the pilot light would go out before turning the thermostat up if the thermocouple were broken, but I don’t know a lot about this stuff).

I have re lit the pilot about ten times over the past year. Now it will not light at all. What is the problem and then what would the fix be and how much? The water heater is only two years old so I am not looking to replace it right now.

I am renting an apartment from a residential company and yesterday the water heater leaked and destroyed some of my things. It went down the wall into the downstairs closet as well.

The company that came to fix it said that the water heater was old and not set up the way it should have. The wall was also not blocked off right to protect the downstairs.

Is the rental company responsible for damage to my things because of their mistake?
