I have an old gas heater for my small apartment. I would like to put a pot of water on top of the stove to put some moisture back into the air. What type of padding do I need under the pot (between the pot and the heater)? What are those pads called? Thanks.

About 6 month ago I install a Whirlpool hot water tank and I never notice or pay attention to it’s operation. However, while working in the basement I notice that the burner makes a loud noise during operation( when lit). The sound it make is like using a blow torch at full blast. Can someone please advise if this is normal or what could be the problem?
Thanks for the Info. However, I have a follow up regarding the blow torch sound…The hot water tank is in my basement and I can hear the sound from my first floor when the burner kick in. Is that normal?

New gas water heater installed a few days ago in my kitchen and I just now noticed there’s soot on my counters and on top of my coffee maker and refrigerator. What does that mean?

This unit is about 11 years old. Always worked fine. Lately, the hot water is only coming in the last few degrees of the turn in all the showers. It used to be that about half way turning the knob would start the water getting warm. Nowadays I have to turn the knob almost 80% of the way to get it warm. To get comfortable temperature,I have to adjust within the last 20% of the knob turn.
Water pressure is normal and hot water temprature is normal. All of the other faucents in my house have 2 handles and work fine.
Both showers have the same problem… so I am guessing not a shower handle issue..

We bought an A.O. Smith six years ago. Three years ago, the gas regulator went out. The part was free, but no plumbers wanted to work on a W/H, except one who charged 0. So, need a new one, but CR doesn’t have any ratings…

I just moved in couple of weeks ago. The first time I ran the gas heater I found out that there was no pressure (at least not enough) in the system. Then I found that the inlet water valve was shut. After opening it for a while, the pressure started to climb and when it reached 30 lbs, I shut it off. But the pressure kept climbing until it triggered the pressure relief valve (water started dripping out of it) at around 45 lbs.
After couple of days with thermostat set between 60 and 70 degree, the heater did not deliver enough heat anymore. I found out that the pressure was almost zero, then I opened the water inlet valve again.
Pressure climbed, pressure relief valve burst, …..it went like a circle.

My question are: Should I leave the water inlet valve open all the time so I do not need to worry about the system losing pressure (and I do not need to manually open the valve) ? Will it make the heater work harder since it has to heat new (cold) water all the time ? Should I be worried about the built up pressure even though there’s a pressure relief valve in the system ?

Thank you very much.
I’m sorry I should have mentioned that I was talking about home gas heater (with water filled radiator as outlet) not a water heater.

Thank you very much.

The gas guy just came to put up the gas for the water heater and stove and said that he couldn’t light up the heater for liability.
